Coco Avant Chanel

I just watched this wonderful film last night at my local Laemmle starring Audrey Tatou as the namesake.  Tatou does a splendid job of capturing the truly stubborn, witty, and highly captivating personality  of Mademoiselle Coco.  It is refreshing to see her do something so charming after that horrible Da Vinci Code movie (Am I the only one that hates the book too?).  The costumes are quite lovely, and you truly feel like you have been transported back to late 17th to early 18th century France.  I love the idea that this film stops just short of the birth of the Chanel empire, and instead shifts focus onto the legend of the younger years that shaped her into the venerable icon she is today.

Overall, it is a very lovely film and like a glass of good wine, has a slowly intoxicating effect that completely absorbs you in a very non-obvious way.  I would love to own it on DVD as well.  Coco Chanel et Igor Stravinsky is next on my to-see list!
